Silly season’s forgotten man, Callum Ilott pushing for “one more shot” in IndyCar for 2027

Callum Ilott, a 27-year-old British driver, is determined to secure another chance in the IndyCar Series for the 2027 season. Despite spending the 2026 season competing in the IMSA SportsCar Championship with Wright Motorsports, Ilott remains optimistic about a return to IndyCar. The setback in 2026 came after PREMA Racing's North American operation faced financial difficulties and structural collapse, leading to the dissolution of the team and Ilott being left without a seat.

Ilott's impressive resume includes a 2020 FIA Formula 2 runner-up finish and a stint as Scuderia Ferrari's Formula 1 test and reserve driver in 2021. He has also competed in the WEC's Hypercar class for Hertz Team JOTA, securing a victory at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. These experiences demonstrate his ability to elevate underfunded teams to competitive levels.

Ilott's dedication to IndyCar is evident, as he has been present at most races this year, even with some accidents and injuries. He has been working behind the scenes to put together a strong package to attract potential teams.
