Samsung Galaxy Z8 Series foldable pre-orders up 30% as half snag the wide Fold 8 — great news for iPhone Ultra

When deciding which Samsung foldable phone to buy, there are three options to consider: the Fold8 Ultra, the Fold8, and the Flip8. All three phones share some common features, such as Samsung's Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology with a 120-Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. They also come equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, 12 GB of RAM, and either 256 GB or 512 GB of storage, with options for higher storage capacities.

Additionally, they are all IP48 water- and dust-resistant, feature an Advanced Armor Aluminum frame, and support fast charging up to 45 watts and wireless charging at 20 watts.

The Fold8 Ultra stands out as the largest and most powerful foldable from Samsung. With its 8-inch main display and 6.5-inch cover display, it offers an expansive screen experience. The phone also boasts a larger 5,000 mAh battery for extended usage, and supports Wireless PowerShare. The camera system is top-tier, featuring a 200-megapixel main camera, 50-megapixel ultrawide, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens supporting 3X optical zoom.

This makes the Fold8 Ultra ideal for photography enthusiasts who want the best image quality available. However, it comes at a price tag of $2,100.

The Fold8, on the other hand, strikes a middle ground between the Fold8 Ultra and the Flip8. It has a 7.6-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio for landscape media, making it more comfortable to use when closed. The phone has a slightly smaller 4,800 mAh battery compared to the Ultra, but still supports fast charging. Its cameras are similar to the Ultra's, with a 200-megapixel main camera and 50-megapixel ultrawide, as well as a 10-megapixel telephoto lens.

The Fold8 is priced at $1,900, making it a more affordable option for those who want a larger screen without breaking the bank.

Lastly, the Flip8 offers a different approach to the foldable market. At 124 mm when unfolded and 85.7 mm when folded, it is shorter than the Fold8 Ultra but wider, offering a more traditional form factor. The 6.9-inch main display and 4.1-inch cover display provide a unique perspective on content viewing. The Flip8 also features a slightly smaller 4,300 mAh battery and is priced at $1,200, making it the most budget-friendly of the three options.

While the cameras are similar to the other models, the Flip8's 60/120 Hz refresh rate on the cover display may not be as smooth as its counterparts.
