Rams Rookie Ty Simpson Has High Praise for Matthew Stafford

The Los Angeles Rams made a surprising selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, choosing rookie quarterback Ty Simpson with the No. 13 overall pick. Simpson will serve as the backup to reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford, who is entering his 18th year as a veteran signal caller. Simpson has expressed his admiration for Stafford, calling him an excellent mentor.

He stated, “It’s the same thing I did in college, except it’s a different level.” Simpson credits Stafford for the rapid learning curve he has experienced, saying, “I’ve learned more ball in the last four months of being with him than I had in four years of being in college.” Stafford is described as "cerebral" and "smart," reflecting Simpson's gratitude for his guidance.

Simpson's college career was impressive, leading the SEC in passing in 2025 with 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He spent the first three years of his collegiate career as a backup quarterback. The Rams are considered strong contenders to win the Super Bowl this season, with their regular season opener set against the San Francisco 49ers on September 10.
