Kuala Lumpur: National Police Chief Khalid Ismail has pledged full cooperation in the implementation of involving police members in the Aviation Security Task Force (AVSEC), as part of imminent enhancements to Malaysia's air travel safety measures. Ismail stated that his team, alongside the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, and related agencies, are currently outlining the details of its execution.

This includes aspects such as assignments, placement locations, human resources requirements, responsibilities, and operational coordination. The police chief affirmed that integrating police units into the aviation security ecosystem would bolster risk sharing, early detection, enforcement coordination, and prompt action against any threats or criminal activities attempting to exploit aviation facilities and procedures.

He emphasized that this step will be part of a more comprehensive, layered, and multi-layered security system, encompassing access control reinforcement, screening procedures, safety inspections, risk assessment, and strategic cooperation among all agencies and stakeholders. The police assured that stringent, customized, and risk-based control will continue to be prioritized to strengthen preventive capabilities, minimize risks, and close potential exploitation spaces by irresponsible parties.

Earlier today, a government spokesperson, Fahmi Fadzil, announced that the government would place police members in AVSEC as an immediate measure to strengthen security checks at Malaysia's temporary flight restriction airports held in Indonesia due to alleged drug smuggling allegations.
