Penyelia tapak projek dituduh pindah wang hasil aktiviti haram RM1.9 juta

Law Tuan Hai, a 63-year-old project manager, faces trial in Seremban Sessions Court over four charges of transferring funds from illegal activities totaling nearly RM1.9 million by allegedly enticing a male acquaintance involved in land sales in Rembau. Tertuduh, the accused, maintains his innocence in the case presented to Judge Shahrul Rizal Majid.

According to the charges, he is accused of receiving nearly RM1.54 million from an account belonging to a company through deceit and by convincing a 49-year-old man to transfer the money to his account. He is also accused of receiving RM338,000 in illegal profits from a savings account of a 54-year-old man. All transfers amounting to RM1.9 million took place after the accused lured both victims into believing he wanted to sell a plot of land in Mukim Kundor area of Rembau, which the accused was not the rightful owner of.

The alleged misconduct is said to have occurred at a bank in Bahau, Jempol between 5 and 11 December 2023. The charges against him are brought under the Prevention of Money Laundering, Prevention of Financing of Crimes and Illegal Profits Act 2001, which can result in imprisonment for up to 15 years and a fine of at least five times the amount or value of the illegal activity or assets involved, or RM5 million, whichever is higher.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Nurliyana R Azmi, representing the prosecution, offered RM30,000 bail for each charge, while the accused's lawyer, Raqib Osman, requested a lower bail of RM8,000 for each charge due to his young son's inability to flee and lack of financial ability to pay high bail. The court allowed the lower bail of RM8,000 for each charge with two sureties.

The request to consolidate and hear the four charges at once in Seremban Sessions Court was also granted. The resumption of the case is set for September 9 for document submissions.
