NPP demo exposes hypocrisy over remembrance of 8 helicopter crash victims – NDC

The Deputy Director for IT and Elections at the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko Computer, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for alleged hypocrisy regarding their scheduled demonstration on August 6, coinciding with the first anniversary of a helicopter crash that killed eight individuals. The NPP intends to protest alleged threats to Ghana's democratic governance, including the acquittal of former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu and the arrest of some party members.

During an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Mr. Tanko Computer acknowledged that the NPP possesses the constitutional right to organize a demonstration, provided it adheres to legal requirements and maintains peaceful conduct. However, he questioned the timing of the protest, arguing that it highlights what he perceives as inconsistencies in the party's stance on commemorating the eight victims of the helicopter crash.

"The pertinent query is that it has revealed the hypocrisy embedded in their lament when we lost the eight individuals," Mr. Tanko Computer stated. The following day, August 6, marks the one-year anniversary of the tragic event. He emphasized that while the NPP has the right to practice its democratic freedoms, political figures must also demonstrate sensitivity towards occasions of national tragedy.

"We are going to demonstrate with individuals who find nothing amiss with that," he added. Mr. Tanko Computer expressed that Ghanaians are keenly observing how political parties navigate the balance between their rights to protest and respect for national mourning.
