NDC sets dates for 2026 internal executive elections

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled a detailed timetable for its 2026 Constituency, Regional, and National Executive Elections, setting the stage for the selection of party leaders ahead of the 2028 General Elections. This roadmap was endorsed by the party's Functional Executive Committee (FEC) on August 4, 2026, and subsequently announced in a press release.

The NDC's announcement of the election schedule underscores its dedication to conducting transparent and well-organized internal elections in adherence to the party's constitution and approved election guidelines.

Nominations for constituency executive positions are set to open on September 15, 2026, and close on September 17, 2026, allowing constituents ample time to submit their applications online via the party's nomination portal. Following the submission deadline, aspirants will have seven days to finalize their nomination forms by September 23 and 24, 2026.

These forms must then be presented online between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., or in person at constituency offices during the same timeframe. The vetting of constituency aspirants is scheduled for September 25-27, 2026, followed by an appeals process during the latter part of the month.

Regional elections will commence with nominations on October 6, 2026, and conclude on October 7, 2026. Aspirants will have seven days to complete their nominations before filing them on October 14 and 15. The vetting of regional aspirants is slated for October 16-17, followed by an appeals hearing on October 19-20. Additionally, the NDC will hold a Regional Youth and Women Conference on November 13, 2026, before proceeding with regional executive elections on November 14-15, 2026.

National executive elections will conclude the electoral process, with nominations opening on October 20, 2026, and closing on October 21, 2026. Candidates will have 14 days to finalize their nominations before submitting them on November 7-9, 2026. The vetting of national aspirants is planned for November 12-13, followed by an appeals process on November 15-16.

The National Youth and Women Conference is set to take place on December 12, 2026, with the exact location yet to be announced. The internal electoral process will conclude with the National Congress on December 19, 2026, where the newly elected national executives will assume leadership roles within the party.
