Mudryk's long wait ends with emotional Chelsea comeback

Ukrainian footballer Mykhailo Mudryk returned to action in a friendly match for Chelsea on August 5, 2026. The 25-year-old winger played in the 82nd minute as a substitute, replacing Nicolas Jackson. Mudryk received enthusiastic support from his Chelsea teammates, who were seen clapping from the bench.

During his brief appearance on the field, Mudryk demonstrated his skills by making one tackle, completing three accurate passes, and recording nine touches. The match concluded with a narrow 1-0 victory for Juventus, marking his first performance for the London club since November 28, 2024. In that game, Mudryk had previously scored a goal in a 2-0 group-stage match of the 2024-25 Conference League against Heidenheim.

In December 2024, Mudryk faced a provisional suspension following a positive doping test. Later that year, he was formally charged with an anti-doping rule violation in June 2025. An independent Football Association disciplinary commission subsequently banned Mudryk for four years, which he later appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

WADA made changes to the technical document concerning meldonium, but these alterations did not apply retroactively. Consequently, the concentration of the substance found in Mudryk’s sample did not constitute a violation under the revised rules. Following this, the FA, WADA, and Mudryk agreed to terminate the appeal proceedings, leading to the lifting of his ban.

Mudryk participated in his first training session with Chelsea shortly after the ban was lifted. The news of his reinstatement triggered interest from English clubs, as Mudryk's talent attracted attention.
