Mohamed Salah mobbed by fans in Istanbul ahead of Trabzonspor move

Trabzonspor football club announced their intention to sign Mohamed Salah, the renowned former Liverpool player, on a free transfer. The club posted images of Salah wearing a Trabzonspor jersey on their Instagram page, taken during his flight to Istanbul. Upon his arrival, Salah was greeted by enthusiastic fans who mobbed him at the airport.

Salah expressed his excitement for joining Trabzonspor in a video released by the club, stating, "Trabzon, are you ready? I can hear you, see you very soon." The Turkish club's chairman, Ertugrul Dogan, confirmed that Salah was set to arrive in Istanbul for medical examinations on Wednesday, after which he would travel to Trabzon. Dogan revealed that talks had begun for the transfer of the free agent.

Reports suggest that Salah had previously expressed interest in joining Istanbul rivals Besiktas; however, negotiations fell through due to financial and image rights disagreements. Earlier in his career with Liverpool, Salah had made significant contributions, scoring 257 goals in 442 appearances and helping the team secure two Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League victory.

In the 2024/25 season, he netted 29 league goals and provided 18 assists, breaking the record for most goal involvements in a single season. Salah also won the Premier League Player of the Season award and the Golden Boot and Playmaker awards in 2024.
