Michael Blackson’s claims on late mother’s care inaccurate – UGMC

The University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) has refuted claims by comedian Michael Blackson concerning the care his late mother received, stating that certain aspects of his social media posts are inaccurate. UGMC expressed condolences to Blackson and his family upon learning about his mother's passing on July 16, 2026, at their facility.

The Centre affirmed that they take patient and family feedback seriously and had conducted a thorough, fair, and objective review of the concerns raised. However, UGMC contended that several of Blackson's assertions on social media do not accurately represent the care his 83-year-old mother received during her eight-week stay from May 27 to July 16, 2026.

The Centre declined to disclose specific details about his mother's diagnosis, treatment, or medical records to respect patient confidentiality, a policy that remains in effect even after the patient's death. The hospital emphasized that all clinical decisions are made by qualified healthcare professionals based on medical standards and in the patients' best interest, often in consultation with authorized family representatives.

Regarding an alleged physical assault of Blackson's sister by a UGMC staff member, the Centre stated that this matter has been forwarded to the appropriate law enforcement authorities and that they would not comment further while the issue is under investigation. UGMC expressed openness to engaging with the family privately and assured that any specific allegations of staff misconduct would be thoroughly investigated and referred to the relevant bodies if necessary.
