Shane Matthews, a 47-year-old man from Harbour Row in Cobh, Co Cork, appeared before Cork District Court on Friday, accused of breaching a court order. The order prohibited him from attending RTÉ Cork's premises and contacting their staff in the city. According to Garda Tracey Fleming, Matthews allegedly shouted, "I will be back again and again and again," outside the RTÉ Cork building on Father Matthew Quay in the city.
On a previous occasion, he was charged with threatening behavior for allegedly shouting abuse and threats outside RTÉ Cork on June 10. Matthews, who claimed RTÉ were bugging his phone, was remanded in custody for further DPP directions. His defense solicitor, Diane Halahan, requested an adjournment until after mid-August to allow Mr Burke to handle the case.
Matthews had previously appeared in court in February and June for similar charges, including criminal damage and threatening behavior. He was remanded in continuing custody until August 17.
