Man assisting police probe over illegal gambling websites on phone; vapes also found in car

A man in Singapore was assisting police with an investigation regarding illegal gambling websites found on his phone, alongside the discovery of electronic vaporisers in his car on August 4. The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) seized over 190 vaporisers and more than 450 related components from both the car and the man's residence.

On that day, around 8:40 pm, police officers patrolling in Toa Payoh came across a parked car on the main road. Upon inspection, vaporisers were discovered and seized from the vehicle. Subsequent questioning of the 37-year-old driver revealed the presence of unlicensed gambling websites on his mobile phone. The driver is now cooperating with investigators in connection with gambling on an unlicensed gambling service provider.

If found guilty, he faces penalties including up to $10,000 in fines, imprisonment for up to six months, or both.

The HSA stated that the seized vaporisers have been sent for testing, and the man is providing assistance to their investigations. Those found guilty of possessing or using vapes in Singapore could face a fine of up to $10,000 for individuals, while those convicted of selling, transporting, delivering, or distributing vapes may be jailed for up to six years and fined up to $200,000.

According to Shin Min Daily News, a bespectacled man was spotted sitting by the roadside in Toa Payoh when the incident occurred. A car with its hood and boot open was nearby, with four police cars parked close by. Open packages and various e-cigarettes were seen scattered on the ground near the vehicle, according to the news publication.

Officers questioned the man, believed to be the driver, while others counted the e-cigarettes and sorted them into evidence bags.
