Kwakye Ofosu dismisses Mahama third-term debate as NPP propaganda

Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has dismissed the ongoing debate surrounding President John Dramani Mahama's potential third-term bid, labeling it as mere political propaganda from the New Patriotic Party (NPP). In an interview on Channel One TV's Face to Face, Kwakye Ofosu affirmed that there has been no uncertainty regarding Ghana's constitutional provisions concerning presidential term limits or Mahama's stance on seeking another term.

The controversy reportedly emerged during the 2024 election campaign when the NPP, realizing their defeat was imminent, resorted to this desperate tactic of propaganda. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that President Mahama has consistently expressed his unwillingness to seek a third term, both domestically and internationally. He cited Mahama's statements during a speech in Singapore and a more recent declaration about three weeks ago to support this claim.

While acknowledging the potential clarification the Supreme Court's decision on the matter could bring, Ofosu maintained that the government's interpretation of the law remains unambiguous. He stated that there is no current indication that Mahama has changed his position on the issue.
