Iran says it has agreed Strait of Hormuz shipping route with Oman

Iran has reportedly reached an agreement with Oman regarding shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei. However, the spokesperson did not provide further details, stating that the deal is in its final stages. Baqaei cautioned that a deal with Oman does not guarantee safe navigation through the strait, citing the ongoing US blockade of Iran's ports as a factor impacting security.

Both the US and Oman have not commented on the proposal. Since the US and Israel attacked Iran in February, Iran has largely obstructed the Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas typically pass. US President Donald Trump warned that Iran would face severe consequences if the strait remains closed soon.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi later stated that the new route would be temporary and could remain open for two to four months. Oil prices declined slightly amid fluctuating energy prices due to the ongoing conflict, with global benchmark Brent crude falling 0.3% to $79.24 per barrel.
