Iran says it has agreed on coordinates of route through Strait of Hormuz with Oman

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, announced that Iran and Oman are nearing an agreement on the coordinates for a shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz. A senior Gulf official indicated a 50% probability of reaching an agreement by Friday. However, an Iranian official emphasized that the agreement alone would not automatically open the waterway.

Baghei explained that the geographical coordinates of the proposed route have been agreed upon, and a joint statement outlining the main considerations and points of agreement is currently under final review and drafting. The Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson also highlighted that the reopening of the Strait would depend on the United States fulfilling its commitment to cease its naval blockade of Iran’s ports.
