Gov't to consider creating agency dealing exclusively with youth policy

Seoul, Aug. 5 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean government is contemplating the creation of an agency solely focused on youth policies, aimed at generating more relevant measures for younger generations, officials disclosed on Wednesday. This proposal was revealed during a policy briefing for President Lee Jae Myung, alongside proposals for a committee and ministerial meeting dedicated to coordinating and discussing youth policies.

The proposal emerged following President Lee's emphasis on the necessity for a dedicated organization handling youth policy. The government is also considering establishing a specialized research institute focusing on youth policy, enhancing platforms for youth policies, introducing an index to gauge the real-world impact of policies on their intended recipients, and intensifying communication with young people.

Additional policies slated for the coming year encompass providing robust support for the proposed establishment of a serious crimes investigation agency and the public prosecution service, two new entities set to be launched in October under a wide-ranging law enforcement reform aimed at removing prosecutors' independent investigative powers.
