Explosions across Kyiv as Russian missiles strike Ukraine’s capital

Shortly after midnight on August 5, Russia launched 24 ballistic missiles at Kyiv, damaging various parts of the city. By 2:48 a.m. local time, authorities confirmed 12 individuals had been injured, with the attack also involving Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles and jet-powered kamikaze drones. Some of these missiles carried cluster warheads, as evidenced by the cascading detonations captured on video.

Explosions and damage were reported at more than seven locations across the Holosiivskyi, Obolon, Desnianskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi districts, primarily affecting non-residential buildings and igniting large fires at warehouse sites. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported these incidents. Emergency services were actively searching for potentially trapped individuals beneath the rubble in Holosiivskyi.

An ammonia leak occurred after a strike on a non-residential building in the Holosiivskyi district, according to the Kyiv City State Administration. The strike ruptured a cistern holding approximately 300 liters of ammonia. Overall, at least seven locations within the city were targeted in the attack.
