EFCC plotting to freeze Osun accounts ahead of gov poll – Adeleke

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, claims that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is plotting to freeze the state government's accounts ahead of the upcoming August 15 governorship election. According to a statement released by Adeleke's Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, Adeleke asserts that he has received credible reports of EFCC's plans to freeze all Osun State Government accounts.

The governor further alleges that the agency intends to freeze the accounts of top government functionaries as well. Adeleke suggests that such a move, if true, would amount to lawlessness and serve to paralyze government activities in the run-up to the election. He emphasizes that there is no legal basis or justification for freezing the accounts of a state government and asserts that the EFCC lacks the legal authority to do so.

The alleged plot emerges in the context of the gubernatorial race, where Adeleke, representing the Accord Party, is seeking re-election against Bola Oyebamiji, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress. Throughout the election campaign, Adeleke has alleged political pressure and interference aimed at undermining his administration.

As of now, the EFCC has not responded to the allegation, and efforts are underway to obtain their reaction.
