Chiefs Have Concerning Plan for Injured Rookie

The Kansas City Chiefs made a risky offseason move by trading their top cornerback, Trent McDuffie, to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for future draft picks. The Chiefs addressed the defensive side of the ball by selecting defensive tackle Peter Woods with the No. 29 pick received from the Rams. They then moved up three spots to acquire cornerback Mansoor Delane with the No. 6 pick, aiming to replace McDuffie immediately.

However, Delane suffered a shoulder injury during OTAs and has been absent from mandatory minicamp. According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, the Chiefs are not planning for Delane to tackle during training camp until his shoulder heals fully. A shoulder scan taken at the beginning of camp revealed minimal healing progress, and there is a chance that Delane's ability to practice tackling could change once pads are introduced.

This situation suggests Delane may miss the Chiefs' preseason opener on Aug. 15 and possibly the second preseason game on Aug. 22 as well. The delay in Delane's participation is concerning, as he was expected to be a Week 1 starter and replace McDuffie in the lineup with the injured cornerback.
