Centre renews bid for delimitation bill as Rijiju reaches out to Rahul Gandhi

The government has reinitiated its pursuit for parliamentary approval of its extensive delimitation legislation, which aims to augment Lok Sabha's membership by more than 50% and introduce women's one-third reservation from 2029. Despite opposition leader Rahul Gandhi categorically rejecting the opposition's offer for support, Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju continued the dialogue during an extensive 50-minute session with him.

This reinforcement of efforts comes amidst a Parliament deadlock, but the specific timing for the delimitation bill introduction is still uncertain. Rumors circulate that the government might reintroduce the Constitution amendment bill, which was rejected in the last session. The Foreign Contributions Regulation (Amendment) Bill, however, is facing significant opposition from various groups.

During the meeting, Congress conveyed their discontent, stating that the rationale behind both legislations was flawed, with Venugopal reaffirming the opposition's steadfast stance.
