BrooklynVegan, Alt Press Hit With Mass Layoffs

BrooklynVegan, Alternative Press, Revolver, and Goldmine, four well-known music publications, have been severely affected by layoffs announced by their parent company, Veeps. The majority of staff members at each outlet reportedly lost their jobs yesterday. Veeps, now a subsidiary of Live Nation, has been the owner of these publications since at least 2024 or 2025.

Pitchfork has reached out to Veeps and Live Nation for comment, but attempts to contact BrooklynVegan employees, with the exception of founder Dave Levine, have been unsuccessful.

Benji and Joel Madden, founders of Veeps, are known for their work in creating ticketed livestream platforms. Dave Levine, the late founder of BrooklynVegan, established the publication in 2004, during the peak of the rock revival in New York. Revolver, born as a general-interest rock magazine in 2000, has been a prominent figure in hard-rock and metal since the following year.

Goldmine, a long-standing physical newspaper and magazine for record collectors, was launched in the mid-1970s. Alternative Press, founded in Cleveland in 1985, remained in the city until its acquisition by another company linked to the Veeps parent, MDDN, around 2020. A fourth brand, Project M, was also part of the portfolio, but its involvement with Veeps is unclear.
