Black Library veteran Toby Longworth gives us his tips for voicing the perfect Space Marine

If you've ever listened to a Black Library audiobook or played Warhammer 40k games, you'll notice it's often difficult to distinguish Space Marines by their voices alone. As an audio veteran for Black Library, Toby Longworth has worked on Dawn of War 4, voicing numerous Space Marines, including Nathaniel Garro, Garviel Loken, Ezekyle Abbadon, and various Primarchs.

Longworth acknowledges the challenge of giving each Space Marine a unique voice due to their cloning in the Adeptus Astartes world. He explains that he starts with a tough, gruff voice and progressively makes the voices more aggressive and imposing as the characters become larger than life. Longworth notes that in a book with more than ten Space Marines, only certain listeners—such as dogs or ground squirrels—can hear them.
