Beijing decries ‘bullying’ US tech curbs that ensnare Chinese firms and products

Beijing has criticized the United States for imposing restrictions on Chinese technology exports, accusing Washington of engaging in "unilateral bullying" that undermines fair competition principles. The People's Daily, a state-run publication, urged Washington to broaden its cooperation list instead of adding to the restrictive "Covered List", a move that has effectively barred new models from receiving FCC equipment authorization.

The FCC's recent addition of foreign-made power inverters and advanced robotics, including humanoids, to the Covered List has targeted Chinese manufacturers, who account for a significant portion of power inverters and robots imported into the US. The People's Daily argued that the US measures, framed under the pretense of "non-discrimination" or "national security", are, in reality, discriminatory suppression aimed at Chinese firms and products.

The restrictions, the commentary asserts, are intended to suppress China's technological progress and curb its industrial growth. The People's Daily also warned that such measures would backfire on America's own economic growth and technological competitiveness, as they would force global supply chains to diversify faster. The tensions between the two nations have intensified ahead of an expected state visit by President Xi Jinping to the US this autumn, amid an intensifying AI race.
