Alpine skiing-Switzerland's Gut-Behrami announces retirement

Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami, a seasoned alpine skier, has officially announced her retirement from the sport. The 35-year-old from Ticino concluded her remarkable career following a training accident last year, which disqualified her from competing in the 2022 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. Despite enduring numerous injuries throughout her career, Gut-Behrami expressed that she was ending her professional journey without any lingering pain.

In a heartfelt video message broadcast by Swiss national broadcaster SRF, Gut-Behrami acknowledged the honor of having experienced a long and fulfilling career. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to pursue her dreams and aspirations through skiing, as well as the privilege of sharing this journey with exceptional individuals.

This realization prompted her to make the decision to retire, citing the necessity to cease pushing her body to its limits and subjecting it to the intense demands and strain associated with professional skiing.

Gut-Behrami's impressive list of accomplishments includes claiming Olympic super-G gold and giant slalom bronze at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. She also won downhill bronze at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics and secured a total of 48 World Cup victories across three disciplines.
