Adiabatic Technologies raises Rs 8.3 crore to power robots and drones

Deeptech energy startup Adiabatic Technologies has successfully raised Rs 8.3 crore in seed funding to enhance its lithium-ion battery systems for various sectors, including robotics, drones, defence equipment, and industrial machinery. The funding round was spearheaded by Malpani Ventures and Avinya Ventures, with additional support from Appreciate Capital, DeVC, San Francisco-based Operators Studio, and UPES Incubator.

Adiabatic Technologies, founded in 2022 by IIT Hyderabad graduate Darshan Meher, specializes in designing custom battery packs, smart chargers, and proprietary battery management systems (BMS) for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) operating in sectors where field failures can be costly. The company has already deployed over 20,000 battery systems across several industries, including robotics, defence, drones, agri-equipment, electric vehicles, and solar energy.

The raised capital will primarily be utilized to increase the manufacturing capacity to 100 MWh annually, accelerate product development, expand the engineering team, and broaden deployment in various fields. Adiabatic Technologies is also constructing specialized platforms for autonomous mobile robots, industrial automation, and unmanned aerial systems.

Founder and CEO Darshan Meher emphasized that the funding will enable the company to further develop high-performance battery systems tailored for challenging environments. Investors are drawn to Adiabatic Technologies' unique approach of designing systems in-house, focusing on engineering solutions for demanding applications rather than merely assembling battery packs.

This differentiation, according to investors, is expected to create long-term value in the battery manufacturing industry.

The BMS plays a crucial role in maintaining battery performance and safety, as it monitors and balances voltage, current, and temperature of individual cells, thereby preventing thermal runaway and extending the overall life of the battery pack. With India still relying on imported lithium-ion cells and domestically assembled battery packs, Adiabatic Technologies is addressing a significant gap by offering tailored solutions that cater to the specific requirements of various industries.

The success of Adiabatic Technologies in scaling up its manufacturing capacity and maintaining reliability standards will be crucial in determining whether it can meet the increasing demand from OEMs in sectors such as robotics, drones, and defence.
