Abdul El-Sayed holds slim lead over Haley Stevens in tight Michigan Democratic Senate primary

Wesley Bell, a moderate Democrat, has secured victory in the Democratic primary for Missouri's 1st Congressional District, narrowly defeating former Congresswoman Cori Bush. The race highlighted tensions between establishment Democrats and democratic socialists within the party, as well as the ongoing debate over U.S. relations with Israel.

Bell, who has represented the heavily Democratic district since 2025, has staunchly supported the U.S.'s alliance with Israel. Bush, on the other hand, is known for her opposition to military aid to Israel, even in the face of human rights abuses.

The primary saw a heated debate on July 24th, with Bell and Bush clashing over their stances on various issues, including their support for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election and the U.S.'s military aid for Israel. The two candidates also differed on their views of former Vice President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, with Bell accusing Bush of calling Harris a fascist. Bush denied this, stating that she was referring to a rise in fascism during the Trump administration and the Biden presidency.

The contentious primary saw accusations of revisionist history and personal attacks, including allegations of Bush exploiting tragedies and routing campaign donations into her own bank account. Despite the bitter campaign, Bell ultimately emerged victorious, given Missouri's strong Democratic leanings.
