Vertex Growth leads X Mile’s US$21.4M Series C for non-desk workforce AI

A Tokyo-based logistics and workforce management firm, X Mile, has secured US$21.4 million in a Series C funding round led by Vertex Growth, a venture capital arm of the Vertex network. This investment brings the company's total funding to approximately US$47 million. X Mile's platform initially served as a staffing solution for labor-scarce sectors like logistics, construction, and manufacturing, but has since expanded into software, vertical AI, M&A advisory, and vehicle sales.

The new capital will be used to enhance X Mile's vertical AI product line and pursue strategic acquisitions that complement its offerings. By providing tools that manage operations in sectors where traditional methods are prevalent, X Mile aims to address labor shortages, an aging workforce, and business succession challenges. Hiroyuki Noro, X Mile's CEO, emphasized the company's focus on vertical AI and its expansion into M&A advisory and business support capabilities.

The investment from Vertex Growth is driven by the company's potential to leverage its staffing business as a foundation for broader software adoption. Vertex Growth sees significant potential for profitability and scale in X Mile's vertical AI solutions and its successful expansion into other industries. Additionally, X Mile's M&A advisory service could position it as a consolidation layer for fragmented industries, addressing not only Japan's demographic challenges but also similar issues in Southeast Asia.

X Mile's competitive landscape includes major staffing players like Recruit and Persol, as well as newer flexible work platforms such as Timee. The company's unique approach to addressing labor-intensive industries' operational gaps could provide valuable insights for startups building industry-specific platforms in Southeast Asia, where labor and productivity challenges are equally pressing.
