US-based Nigerian basketball player arrested over rape charges in Alabama

Daniel Adegboyega, a 21-year-old US-based Nigerian basketball player, has been arrested in Alabama on charges of first-degree rape. The incident reportedly occurred on July 28 when the victim visited Adegboyega's apartment to watch a movie. According to police, Adegboyega made unwanted sexual advances despite the woman repeatedly asking him to stop.

The woman, distressed by the situation, secretly texted her roommate, leading to a welfare check. Upon arrival, officers found the victim visibly distressed and alleged that Adegboyega had raped her twice that night. Clothing with blood stains was recovered during the investigation. Adegboyega, who recently joined Jacksonville State University's men's basketball team, has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bond at Calhoun County Jail.

Immigration officials have placed a hold on him, stating that he entered the US on an expired F-1 student visa. The university has removed his name from the team's website following his arrest, and a preliminary hearing has been set for August 31.
