Toone grateful to Skinner after his Man Utd departure

Manchester United midfielder Ella Toone has expressed her gratitude to former manager Marc Skinner for his support during the difficult period after her father's death. Skinner, who left United by mutual consent after five years in charge, led the Women's Super League club to the Champions League knockout stage and secured their first major trophy with the 2024 Women's FA Cup.

However, he faced criticism from some fans and United finished fourth in the WSL last season, missing out on European qualification. Toone, speaking alongside team-mate Maya le Tissier, said Skinner provided emotional support and allowed her to express herself on the pitch, calling him a good person and a person who helped her come back to give everything for the team.

Skinner had spoken to the players in the changing room on Monday morning before his departure was announced, and both Toone and Le Tissier revealed that they had not been consulted about the appointment of a new manager. The club is expected to appoint a new manager soon, with a focus on developing young players amid a renewed emphasis on recruiting youth at the Women's Super League club.
