The Pixel Watch 5 just leaked in full before Google’s August 12 event

Google's upcoming Pixel Watch 5 was leaked ahead of the company's August 12 event, revealing minimal hardware upgrades from the previous model. The watch will continue to use the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 processor, a 3,000-nit display, charging speeds, and battery-life estimates that are similar to those of the Pixel Watch 4. The most notable change is the addition of 64GB of storage, double the capacity of the previous year's model.

Google plans to release the watch with Wear OS 7 and slightly larger batteries. The watch will feature Gemini and updated health features, which are expected to drive most of the functionality in the device. Both models, the 41mm and 45mm variants, are expected to retain the Actua 360 LTPO AMOLED display, which can range from 1Hz to 60Hz and reach up to 3,000 nits of brightness.

The battery capacity has been slightly increased, rising from 325mAh to 332mAh for the 41mm model and from 455mAh to 465mAh for the 45mm version. However, these minor increases do not lead to a significant improvement in endurance, as Google still claims up to 30 and 40 hours of battery life, respectively. Charging times remain unchanged, with the 41mm model reaching 50% in about 15 minutes and a full charge in approximately 45 minutes, while the 45mm model takes around 30 minutes to reach 50% and an hour for a full charge.

Google's marketing material is centered around software, specifically Gemini Intelligence. The assistant is said to proactively surface useful information and suggest replies based on the conversation displayed on the watch. Health and fitness features are also highlighted, with Google claiming that the Pixel Watch 5 offers its most accurate sleep tracking yet.

The watch can monitor sleep stages, breathing rate, generate a personalized sleep score, and display this information on a morning Insights screen. Loss of Pulse Detection is also emphasized, which can automatically contact emergency services if a wearer's pulse is no longer present. Satellite SOS is also expected to return, included at no additional cost for two years after activation.

According to Dealabs' earlier pricing claims, the 41mm Pixel Watch 5 will start at $399 for the Wi-Fi model and $499 for LTE, while the 45mm versions may cost $429 and $529. Despite the small hardware upgrades, Google's software enhancements, such as tighter Wear OS 7 tuning, deeper Gemini Intelligence integration, and Pixel-exclusive software features, may help the watch maximize the aging hardware.

The Pixel Watch 5 is expected to be unveiled on August 12, with wider availability rumored for August 20. While the watch may be more expensive than its Pixel Watch 4 counterparts, Google's software improvements could justify the price for some users. However, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 currently offers better hardware at a lower price, making it a stronger option for Android users.
