Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized that the future of the surveying profession hinges on more than just technical proficiency. Speaking at the Centenary Celebration of the Surveyors’ Institute of Sri Lanka, she highlighted the critical need for integrity, adaptability, innovation, and a strong commitment to public service among surveyors.

Recognizing the foundational role of surveyors in national development, the Prime Minister pointed out that their work underpins various aspects of development, from sustainable urban planning and efficient land management to infrastructure projects and secure land titles. The surveying profession contributes significantly to major projects like irrigation systems, expressways, and land ownership programs, ensuring secure land administration across the island.

Surveys for numerous irrigation reservoirs in the Northern and North Central Provinces exemplify their importance in supporting water resource management. The Prime Minister also stressed that modern technology, including satellite technology, GIS, remote sensing, AI, and drones, is revolutionizing surveying practices, transforming government approaches to urban planning, natural resource management, disaster response, and public service delivery.

Emphasizing the importance of a digitally connected and efficient national infrastructure system, she stressed that accurate, accessible geospatial information is crucial for sustainable development and disaster resilience.
