Supreme Court urges ED to consider releasing funds from frozen Trinamool Congress accounts

On Monday, the Supreme Court urged the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to contemplate releasing some funds from three debit-frozen bank accounts of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The court's bench emphasized that the party would require finances for its daily operations and legal costs, despite the legality of the freezing order being under appeal.

A week later, the ED must provide instructions and return with a response. The SC clarified that it was not taking a stance on the merits of the dispute, which is still pending before the Calcutta High Court. The bench instructed both parties to consider releasing a certain amount for the administrator to cover daily expenses and other necessary expenditures. The matter will be revisited next week.
