Spanish MEP appeals to Netanyahu to back Spain's sovereignty amid Ceuta border crisis

By mid-August, it was estimated that around 69,500 individuals had crossed into Ceuta, with many more arriving over subsequent days. The influx overwhelmed local infrastructure, leading to shortages of essential goods and services. The crisis also sparked political controversy, with Israel's UN ambassador accusing Spain of hypocrisy for deploying troops in Ceuta while criticizing Israel's security policies.

Despite the outcry, no antisemitic incidents were reported in Ceuta, though residents expressed apprehension and security concerns. The situation strained relations between Spain and its allies, with accusations of Israeli and US involvement in the crisis. Spanish organizations working against antisemitism expressed concern over the impact on pro-Israel sentiment within the country, stating that the crisis had significantly undermined support for Israel in Spain.
