South Korean pool-goer makes waves online in pink swimsuit amid record heatwave

A man donning a pink women's one-piece swimsuit at a South Korean swimming pool has ignited a conversation online. The photograph, which circulated on social media, depicted the man from behind, wearing the pink swimsuit and a matching swim cap, as people sought relief from a scorching summer heatwave. The original poster questioned the man's attire, stating that they were taken aback upon arrival.

Another commenter claimed to have been at the pool and mentioned police removing the individual; however, the reported police response was unverified. Opinions were split, with some criticizing the man's appearance and expressing discomfort, while others defended his choice, arguing it was a personal freedom and that observers could simply overlook it.

South Korea's Hangang Park facilities, including the Yeouido and Ttukseom swimming pools and water parks, saw over 260,000 visitors as of July 26. Seoul's public pools recently faced issues related to sexual harassment, illegal filming, and disruptive behavior. The city plans to increase banners, public announcements, patrols by public safety officers, and real-time monitoring surveillance cameras to curb these issues.

South Korea has witnessed its hottest temperatures in recent days, with Yangsan's all-time high reaching 42.5 degrees Celsius (106.5 degrees Fahrenheit). The entire city was under a severe heatwave warning, with temperatures expected to soar again close to 40 degrees Celsius. Authorities have advised residents to avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours and to seek shelter.

To combat the urban heat island effect, Seoul is spraying 1,982km (1,230 miles) of roads with water using 205 trucks, with operations increasing during heatwave warnings.
