Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces and Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts

According to the Department of Meteorology's weather forecast issued on 04 August 2026 at 05.30 a.m., periods of showers and thundershowers are expected to occur in various regions across Sri Lanka. These areas include the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts. The skies in these locations will be predominantly cloudy.

In the Sabaragamuwa province and Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, fairly heavy showers with rainfall exceeding 75 mm are anticipated at certain locations. The North-central province is also expected to witness several spells of showers.

Moreover, the North-central province alone will experience a series of showers, whereas showers or thundershowers may manifest in the Uva and Eastern provinces, along with the Mullaitivu district after 2.00 p.m. Strong winds, blowing at speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, are likely to be experienced in several provinces, including the North-central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, and North-western regions, as well as Trincomalee district.

The general public is urged to take necessary precautions to mitigate any potential damage caused by fleeting, localized strong winds and lightning during the thundershowers.
