Sapta Tandavam brings Shiva’s cosmic dance alive through Kuchipudi, Kakatiyam in Hyderabad

The classical dance production ‘Sapta Tandavam’ was presented by the Pranava Institute of Kuchipudi at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad. The show was conceived and choreographed by Padma Shri awardee Padmaja Reddy, who trained nearly 100 dancers for the performance. The production aimed to depict different manifestations of Lord Shiva’s cosmic dance, blending Kuchipudi and Kakatiyam traditions.

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla attended the programme, expressing appreciation for Reddy’s efforts in bringing together the two distinct dance forms. Kuchipudi, with its fluid movements, expressive storytelling, footwork, and abhinaya, was juxtaposed with Kakatiyam, inspired by the sculptural heritage of the Kakatiya period and the Ramappa Temple. The production concluded with Shiva Priyam.
