Ranking every projected ACC starting QB in 2026

The ACC's quarterback situation for the 2026 season is one of uncertainty, with only five returning starters from the previous year. This opens up the possibility for a number of new faces to step up and make their mark. However, the quality of these incoming quarterbacks varies greatly, with some possessing significant upside while others may struggle to make an impact.

On the lower end of the spectrum, players like Ashton Daniels (Florida State), Mason McKenzie (Boston College), and Billy Edwards Jr. (Maryland) have had varying degrees of success in recent seasons. Daniels transferred from Auburn, but his production was underwhelming at the Seminoles last year. McKenzie, a standout player at Saginaw Valley State University, will need to prove he can perform at the ACC level in Boston College's system.

Similarly, Edwards Jr., who played well at Maryland before an early-season injury, showed promise but may have to fight for his job at Maryland again.

In the middle of the pack, we have a group of quarterbacks who are expected to provide stability for their respective programs. Beau Pribula (Virginia), Ethan Grunkemeyer (Virginia Tech), Steve Angeli (Syracuse), and Mason Heintschel (Pitt) all have shown flashes of potential and could be key players for their teams if they can get off to a strong start. Pribula, in particular, has demonstrated the ability to contribute both as a runner and a passer, which could make him a valuable asset for the Cavaliers.

At the top of the ACC's quarterback rankings, we have four players who are considered legit stars for their respective programs. Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele (Cal) had an impressive freshman season, throwing for nearly 3,500 yards and 18 touchdowns. He quickly became the starter and showed the potential to be a franchise quarterback. Coming off a strong freshman season, Cal's quarterback position appears to be in good hands.

Next, we have NC State's CJ Bailey and SMU's Kevin Jennings, both of whom are expected to build on their progress from the previous season. Bailey, who was a key contributor at NC State, could be a strong option as the team looks to improve under new head coach, Bobby Petrino. Jennings, who played well at SMU in 2025, is another solid option who could step into a starting role with ease.

Finally, Darian Mensah from Miami is considered the top quarterback prospect in the ACC for 2026. As a first-year starter, Mensah led the Hurricanes to a 10-3 record and finished with 2,066 passing yards and 17 touchdowns. His ability to elevate his game when needed, combined with his experience as a starter, makes him a strong candidate to lead Miami back to the national championship conversation.
