Polaris Just Turbocharged the RZR Pro R to 275 HP - and Reinvented How a CVT Works

Polaris has unveiled two major updates to its 2027 lineup: a turbocharged RZR Pro R and an Xpedition with a reengineered CVT system. The Xpedition, known for its enclosed, climate-controlled design, now features NUMATIX, an in-house developed pneumatic CVT system that aims to reduce noise and improve acceleration. This system, which adds about 25-30 pounds to the vehicle's weight, includes an air compressor, a small tank, and a pneumatic valve block, and can be adjusted dynamically through three drive modes.

NUMATIX allows the engine to run at lower RPMs during cruising, resulting in a 40% reduction in noise. The Xpedition will come with an air chuck for tire inflation and a portable water tank, marking another industry first. The turbocharged RZR Pro R, on the other hand, boasts a 275 horsepower output from its naturally aspirated 2.0-liter ProStar Fury four-cylinder engine, a 22% increase over the previous model.

This boost in power comes with a forward-rearward radiator redesign, a front-mounted liquid-air intercooler, and a stronger front differential to handle the additional power. The Pro R Boost is available in two- and four-seat configurations and starts at $49,999, with dealer shipments beginning in November 2026. Polaris aims to position the Pro R Boost as the fastest production side-by-side on the market.
