Osun decides: Adeleke, Oyebamiji, Salaam locked in tight gov battle

The campaign organization backing Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed apprehensions over potential political violence and intimidation prior to the scheduled election on August 15, 2026. In a statement released on Sunday, the Imole Campaign Council emphasized the need for a peaceful, free, fair, and credible poll. Reports from various communities within the state pointed towards mounting fears among the populace about alleged acts of intimidation and violence linked to political activities.

The council's assessment, based on interactions with voters across the state, revealed a unified stance from the people of Osun. They are reportedly determined to vote against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) due to concerns over what many residents perceive as a consistent pattern of political intimidation, violence, and insecurity allegedly tied to loyal supporters of the opposition party.

The statement highlighted Adeleke's administration's achievements, including the timely payment of workers' salaries, modernization of infrastructure, revitalization of public institutions, and investments in public welfare.

The Imole Campaign Council directed security agencies, including the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Services, and other relevant bodies, to safeguard citizens' rights and maintain the integrity of the electoral process. They urged these agencies to identify, dismantle, and prosecute any criminal networks involved in political violence, irrespective of their political affiliations.

The council stressed that the election's outcome should reflect the genuine will of Osun residents, unencumbered by coercion, fear, or violence. They reiterated that the voters' decision on August 15 must be determined by their free expression of choice, not manipulated by fear, violence, or coercion.
