New coach Steve Daulton embraces high expectations at Bloom-Carroll

Bloom-Carroll football team, renowned for its consistent success, now faces a new challenge under the leadership of head coach Steve Daulton. Despite the change, the team is determined to maintain its winning tradition, with Daulton promising to build upon the foundation of achievements established by previous coaches. Over the past four seasons, the Bulldogs have compiled an impressive record of 42-12, including four consecutive playoff appearances and a Division III state runner-up finish in 2022.

Daulton, who previously coached at Berne Union and Amanda-Clearcreek, brings a wealth of experience to Bloom-Carroll. He had also served as the offensive coordinator at Lancaster for the last three years, where his former mentee, Jeremy McKinney, took over as head coach. McKinney departed to assume the head coaching position at Lancaster, leaving a void that Daulton is now stepping into.

The coach acknowledges the high expectations that come with his new role and emphasizes the team's commitment to continuing the successful trajectory. "I’m fortunate and grateful to be here," Daulton asserts, acknowledging the program’s history of success and the desire to build upon it. He encourages his players to embrace change, acknowledging that while the team is accustomed to doing things a certain way, this season will be marked by a step-by-step approach to adaptation.

Daulton has been actively working to forge relationships with the players, recognizing that this is a crucial aspect of his coaching strategy. He notes the team's receptiveness to change, praising the players for their adaptability and willingness to improve. With the new offense and defense, the players have been diligently working all summer to integrate seamlessly, with the first game scheduled for Aug. 21 against River Valley.

Senior linebacker Weston Coppess expresses optimism about the team's potential, despite the challenges of adjusting to new roles. "The toughest challenge is adapting to a new offense and defense," Coppess admits, but adds that the team's progress has been impressive. "We're more than prepared to step onto the field tomorrow and compete at an elite level.

We understand the expectations, but we also know that we must earn every victory. We’re determined to win and have a chip on our shoulder ready to shock those who underestimate us."

With a fresh look, including new uniforms and helmets in bright gold, Bloom-Carroll opens the season on the road. Coach Daulton and his team are poised to make their mark, demonstrating resilience and determination as they aim to continue the legacy of excellence built by generations of Bulldogs.
