Man Utd admit ticket touting investigation error

Manchester United has admitted that their ticket touting investigation underestimated the number of fans who shared account details, causing distress to some supporters. The club began the investigation last month after identifying accounts with suspicious activity. One instance involved 1,088 accounts accessed on a single device.

United defended their actions in private but accepted they made mistakes in executing the investigation after concerns were raised at a fans forum on July 30th. They recognize that many supporters shared account usernames and passwords for legitimate reasons and underestimated how common this practice was. The club says a satisfactory explanation has been provided in many cases and restrictions have been removed from affected accounts.

Season tickets will only be confiscated in cases of organized touting, systematic misuse, or financial gain. United believes the investigation has uncovered significant touting, which will allow them to return tickets to genuine fans. The club acknowledges the impact on loyal supporters and emphasizes that confiscated season tickets will be repurposed and not sold as corporate hospitality packages. Fans are asked to respond within a 14-day deadline.
