(LEAD) Lee says AI-driven upheaval reshaping industrial landscape, calls for bold, speedy investment

SEOUL, Aug. 4 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung declared on Tuesday that an upheaval driven by artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the global industrial landscape, emphasizing the urgent need for ambitious and swift investments to adapt to these changes. At the inauguration of policy discussions by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resource, the environment ministry, and other government agencies, the president highlighted the profound impact of AI on the industrial structure.

Lee emphasized the importance of bold decisions, decisive actions, and prompt investments during times of such upheaval. He stressed the significance of developing South Korea's competitive advantage, asserting it is the government's responsibility to identify trends, envision future possibilities, and establish the groundwork for innovation.

Lee underscored the necessity of maintaining robust industrial growth potential and a resilient energy security system to ensure the nation's ability to withstand external environmental shifts.

Furthermore, the president stressed the importance of not relying on specific countries or markets, urging the government to tirelessly pursue the diversification of export markets and supply chains. During another briefing session with the antitrust watchdog, the labor ministry, and other agencies, Lee directed the Korea Fair Trade Commission to rigorously address market irregularities, encompassing price manipulation and market manipulation.
