KT Wiz to hold retirement ceremony for ex-captain Hwang Jae-gyun

The KT Wiz has announced a retirement ceremony for former captain Hwang Jae-gyun, marking the conclusion of his 18-year career in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO). The event will take place on Saturday at the Wiz's home stadium, KT Wiz Park in Suwon. The ceremony will precede an evening game against Hwang's former team, the Lotte Giants.

Hwang, now 39 years old, announced his retirement in December last year. In his final season, he batted .275 with seven home runs and 48 RBIs in 112 games, earning a .287 career batting average. He is one of only three KBO players to achieve at least 200 home runs and 200 steals, and he holds records for games played and hits in a 14-season span.

During his KBO tenure, Hwang led the Wiz to their first championship in the 2021 Korean Series. He also earned a Golden Glove award at third base in 2020 and won gold medals at the 2014 and 2018 Asian Games. Hwang's retirement ceremony will feature autograph sessions for 100 fans, a tribute video displayed on the stadium scoreboard, and a ceremonial first pitch thrown by members of Hwang's family. Following the game, Hwang will be honored by his family, former teammates, and coaches, with fireworks concluding the event.
