Jawatankuasa diberi tempoh 3 bulan teliti RUU Kebebasan Maklumat, Bidang Kuasa Admiralti

Parliamentary select committees have been granted three months to investigate the Freedom of Information and Admiralty Powers Bills, according to Information and Communications Minister Azalina Othman Said. The minister announced the committees' involvement with various stakeholders during their first meeting, held after the House of Representatives approved the bills in July.

Both committees, which convened today, will continue a series of meetings before finalizing the research and recommendations for submission to Parliament in the next sitting, as stated in the announcement. The proposed amendments to the Freedom of Information Bill aim to strengthen citizens' rights to access information through a balanced, clear, and accountable legislative framework.

Meanwhile, the Admiralty Powers Bill seeks to modernize the maritime legislative framework in line with international best practices. The consultative process will involve the ministry and government agencies, legal experts, academics, professional bodies, and relevant industry players, Majlis Advocates, as well as representatives from NGOs and relevant civil society organizations.
