How Morocco's Gaza deployment is reshaping its ties with Israel

Morocco has recently deployed its military to the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in Palestine, marking a shift in its relations with Israel. This decision, approved by the UN Security Council, has been framed as a humanitarian mission by Rabat, but activists criticize it as complicity in the post-war occupation of Gaza.

The ISF was initially planned to deploy 500 Moroccan military officials to a refugee camp in Rafah, but the number has been reduced to 200 soldiers. Morocco's participation, spearheaded by King Mohammed VI and his Al-Quds Committee, follows instructions from King Mohammed VI. While Morocco claims to be supporting peace and regional stability, Israeli officials have shown no intention of withdrawing from the territories they illegally occupy.

Instead, they have proposed extending settlements into Gaza. The Moroccan military's presence in Gaza is primarily seen as a humanitarian initiative, with the establishment of a field hospital as a key objective. However, critics argue that this move is more about bolstering Morocco's diplomatic role in the Palestinian issue and helping the Zionist entity.
