Despite being a rare luxury even in newly built homes, where only four percent of buildings come equipped with cooling systems, deciding on a home air conditioner raises several important questions. Two primary types of air conditioners exist: monoblock units and split air conditioners. Monoblock units are compact, featuring the compressor, refrigerant loop, and fan within a single housing. Typically, these are mobile devices with one to two exhaust hoses, designed to draw in warm indoor air, cool it down, and expel the heat through an exhaust hose via an open window.

Monoblock units are cost-effective, with prices starting at around 250 euros. Higher-performance units can cost up to 1000 euros, but they tend to be louder, making them more suitable for daytime use rather than overnight in bedrooms. However, their flexibility allows for easy relocation between rooms and transportation during future moves, making them an ideal choice for renters.
