Government to raise CSAM lapses, wrongful account action issue with Meta; global team in India on Aug 5-6

The Indian government plans to address issues with Meta's content moderation practices during a meeting with the company's global team in India on August 5-6, IT Secretary S. Krishnan announced on August 4. The concerns include lapses in curbing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and wrongful removal of content from prominent accounts.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, had previously attributed an incident involving the temporary removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's post to a technical glitch and apologized for the error. However, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology deemed the explanation inadequate. The government has summoned Meta's top executives to clarify issues surrounding algorithmic bias, the company's role in maintaining public order, and to understand the measures taken to address CSAM concerns.
