‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ to Make World Premiere at 2026 New York Film Festival

Takashi Yamazaki's "Godzilla Minus Zero" is set to debut at the 64th New York Film Festival on September 26, as the Spotlight Gala. This marks the world premiere of the sequel to his Oscar-winning 2023 film "Godzilla Minus One." The movie will be screened at the prestigious Alice Tully Hall, where Yamazaki and the cast and crew will be present.

Yamazaki expressed his honor and excitement to introduce his film to a global audience in such a historic venue, sharing his awe and anticipation for the film's reception. The new story is set in 1949 and follows the Shikishima family as they rebuild their lives after WWII, while Godzilla reenters their lives. NYFF Artistic Director Dennis Lim commended Yamazaki for continuing the franchise's postwar roots, highlighting the film's human drama and innovative craftsmanship.

Yamazaki's career began in Japan as a visual effects supervisor in 1986, before directing his debut feature in 2000. In 2024, he became the first director since Stanley Kubrick to win the Oscar for Visual Effects for "Godzilla Minus One," sharing the award with his collaborators.
