Ghana Athletics endorses Accra Inter-City Marathon

Ghana Athletics, the governing body of athletics in Ghana, has given its full support to the upcoming Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon, scheduled for October 10, 2026. The marathon, which will be headlined by the soft drinks giant Tampico, is anticipated to draw over 2000 participants.

Ghana Athletics, in a letter to the event's organizers, Medivents Consult, pledged to provide essential support for the successful execution of the race. One of the key commitments is to introduce electronic timing systems for the first time at the event. This innovative approach aims to ensure precise timing, deter cheating, and facilitate the winners' registration and participation in international competitions post-race.

The 2026 Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon will comprise two categories: a 21-kilometer race and a 5-kilometer sprint. The race is open to athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and all race aficionados. The course commences and concludes at the Trust Sport Emporium (Bukom Boxing Arena), weaving through some of Accra's most prominent streets.

According to Medivents Consult, the organizers, the marathon promises participants an unforgettable experience as they race through some of Accra's beautiful and historically rich streets. They also promise a vibrant finish point, complete with entertainment and refreshments.

Outstanding winners of the marathon will be rewarded with cash prizes, medals, and souvenirs from the event's sponsors. This marathon is set to be a thrilling event, combining athletic competition with a fantastic cultural experience.
