Funeral arrangements of Oscar-winner Fricker announced

The funeral of Irish actress Brenda Fricker took place in Dublin, where she grew up. Oscar-winning Fricker, who passed away at the age of 81, was laid to rest at St Catherine's Church in The Liberties area. Her death on July 16 was the result of a hospice stay in Harold's Cross. President Catherine Connolly's aide-de-camp, Captain Brian Clarke, represented the president at the service.

Parish priest Msgr Eoin Thynne, welcoming attendees, stated that Fricker's funeral was not meant to be a day of tears but a celebration of her life. Fricker, known for her kindness and mischief, lived a life brimming with love, laughter, stories, and generosity. She expressed her desire for no sadness or fuss during her farewell.

Thynne highlighted Fricker's impact on others, emphasizing her ability to bring out the best in people and see the light in others. He praised her for portraying dignity and truth in every role, particularly her Oscar-winning performance as Christy Brown's mother in My Left Foot. Fricker's generosity, kindness, and truthfulness were lauded throughout the service.

Eulogy delivery Virginia Gilbert described Fricker's friendship as unique and profound, noting her ability to connect with anyone and her unwavering attentiveness. She mentioned Fricker's inner success surpassing her worldly achievements. Filmmaker Tadhg O Sullivan remembered Fricker as honest, brave, curious, kind, and attentive, quoting a line from Home Alone 2 that resonated with her legacy.

Fricker's best friend, Liz Duffy, thanked numerous friends and neighbors who supported her during difficult times. The funeral notice revealed Fricker was predeceased by her husband, Barry, mother, father, and sister. She leaves behind a legacy of being a national treasure, whose heart shone through in every role she played.
